Why choose AJM Builders

Making homes better, every time

We take on the whole job rather than a slice of it — bathrooms, kitchens, conservatory warm roofs, windows and doors, plastering, fascias and guttering. One team, one number to ring, and a house that gets put back together properly at the end.

Quality workmanship

The bit you can't see matters as much as the bit you can. Work is done properly the first time, and we'd rather take an extra day than leave something we wouldn't want in our own house.

Attention to detail

Level tiles, straight silicone lines, downlights that line up, a fascia with the LEDs set in neatly. Nobody notices the details when they're right — everybody notices them when they're not.

Reliable and professional

We turn up when we say we will, tell you what's happening, and tidy up at the end of the day. You'll always know who's coming and what's happening next.

Tailored to your needs

Built around you — your house, your budget, how you actually live in the space. We'll tell you honestly what we'd do if it were ours.

The same conservatory

Before, and after

One roof off, one insulated warm roof on, two Velux windows in and the inside plastered. The frames, the dwarf wall and the doors are all the ones that were already there.

Conservatory warm roofs

Too hot in June, too cold in October

That's most conservatories, and it's the roof doing it. Replace the glass with a fully insulated warm roof and the room stops being a greenhouse — it becomes part of the house, usable in both directions of the year.

How it works

From first call to finished

Six steps, no surprises. You'll know what's happening and what it costs before anyone lifts a tool.

  1. 01

    Get in touch

Call, message us on Instagram or use the form with a rough idea of what you're after. We'll tell you honestly whether it's something we do and whether it's straightforward.

  2. 02

    A free, no-obligation visit

We come out, look at the job properly and talk through the options standing in the actual room. No charge, no pressure and no salesman.

  3. 03

    A written quote

You get a clear quote setting out what's included and what it costs. If something needs changing, we change it before anyone commits to anything.

  4. 04

    We book you in

You get a start date and a realistic idea of how long we'll be there. If anything moves, you hear it from us first rather than finding out on the day.

  5. 05

    The work

Dust sheets down, mess contained, tidy at the end of every day. You'll always know who's turning up and what's happening next.

  6. 06

    Finished and cleared

We walk you round it, sort anything you're not happy with, and take the rubbish away. Then it's yours.

Common questions

The things everyone asks

Which areas do you cover?

We're based in Ashton-under-Lyne and work across Tameside and Greater Manchester — Stalybridge, Dukinfield, Hyde, Denton, Droylsden, Mossley, Audenshaw, Oldham, Stockport, Manchester and the towns around them. If you're near the edge of that, ask anyway.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. The visit and the quote are free and there's no obligation. We'd rather come and look at the job than guess at it over the phone, because a guess is no use to either of us.

Why don't you publish prices?

Because the honest answer depends on the house. Two bathrooms the same size can be very different jobs depending on what's behind the walls, where the soil pipe runs and what you want in there. You'll get a written quote after a free visit rather than a 'from' price that turns out to apply to almost nobody.

How long will the work take?

It depends on the job. We'll give you a realistic window with the quote and tell you straight away if anything changes. We'd rather set an honest expectation than a hopeful one.

Do I need building regulations approval for a conservatory warm roof?

Usually yes. Replacing a glazed conservatory roof with a solid, insulated one is a building notice job in almost all cases, and it needs a check that the existing frames and base can carry the extra weight. It's very routine and we'll talk you through it — there's a full guide on this site. What you should be wary of is anyone who tells you it isn't needed at all.
